Successful Bible Reading Tips

How to begin

Just as you set your roman new year resolution, it will take steps to make those resolutions come through. There is a saying I learnt from high school many years ago: Plan Your Work & Work Your Plan. Create a study space (Carve out dedicated time), manage your expectations (most new habits grow slowly and die quickly)

Keep in mind that at times you may miss a scheduled time of the study, don't beat yourself up. Leave room for in case you miss a planned study day. Balance your diet (not food) but not all scriptures are applied the same way as in for Psalm, Proverb, Prophecy, Parable or Promises etc. Let your understanding grow. (think of it as nutrition and a balanced spiritual diet).

Join Bible Study Groups | Pray Before, During & After

Joining a study group that shares your faith can and will help with further gaining in-depth knowledge of the scriptures. As you begin to indulge in constant bible study, there is one thing you should know: Jesus told us one thing about the Comforter (The Holy Spirit). In John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: The bible also advises one thing we must do on our spiritual journey: 1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing. Let this be a habitual thing for you before, during and after your studies, as it should be for you everyday.

Verse of the day

Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

Proverbs 27:1 KJV

Put it in practice

There are some things you must do to keep you on your spiritual journey namely: Exercise Faith, Prayer, and Keeping God's commandments. All this are effective after reading God's Holy words. Like it is said, knowledge is power when you know how to use it. Reading the bible is great, but practicing what you read is greater.

If you set out to study the words of God as suggested in the above paragraphs, you are doing a wonderful thing. But it takes a steady reading in order for the spirit of God to bring something to your remembrance. You can only remember verses after it has been read, then and only then the Holy Spirit can bring it to  your remembrance.

Practical Approach

Schedule Plan Choose Plan Meditate on God's Words

Blessed is the man whose delight is in the Law of the Lord. And his His Law he meditates day and night  Psalm 1:2 -KJV-

Obedience Matures and will Motivate

In studying, let me bring a scripture to mind. In the book of James 1:22 it says: But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. When we apply the bible through the leading of the Holy Spirit, it moves from being a historic book to a life-long changing book. There isn't anything more exciting than seeing the God of the universe actively leading our every action. Nothing is more unworthy than reading the Bible and we are not applying it. We are saved through faith, and not just any faith, but faith in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit as Christ notes, when present will teach you all things, we just have to follow it.
